Minugurulu Telugu Cinema (Minugurulu FireFlies)
I met AyodhyaKumar Krishnamsetty In Nov 2009 through the award winning documentary filmmaker Vanaja.
He sounded like a typical NRI filmmaker full of enthusiasm. Was ready
with a script. A romantic comedy. Initially we discussed on the script,I
suggest few changes and the discussion went on for quite some time. At a
point we realized that, though it was a very safe film to make, the
script did not have anything dramatically different to offer.
Than the search for another stor y went-on. Once I heard a story from Veerababu Nagabhairava about few blind children making a film. The idea was fascinating, challenging yet endearing. It stuck with me for quite-some time. I pitched it to Ayodhya. He liked the story Instantly and things started moving. We three went around for research, sat and worked on the details of the story and fist draft was ready in 2010. Shoot also commenced by end of the year.
I journey of almost 4 years and Minugurulu FireFlies in making for 3 years. It has been a rich experience working with Ayodhya. His conviction, commitment, determination and resilience some times is scary. And the same time so admirable. Picking up a story you believe in is only one part of the story. Biggest and most difficult path has been to to make it in an uncompromising way. And further to get this film in to theaters,by facing all the odds. He did it. Only he could have done it.
This is not a typical Telugu cinema. But it has everything that is Telugu. This has content that could be matched with any international cinema. I am proud to be part of MINUGURULU that is truly an international cinema made in Telugu language. It is releasing tomorrow (24th January,2014). Please watch it and provide us with your feedback.
